When you first read the title you might be tempted to think this is against digital picture frames, well this is quite the opposite, I feel like it’s a great idea and here’s why.
Growing up, most of us, like me, had parents who loved taking pictures with cameras as well as with a movie camera. No, we didn’t grow up in the era of silent pictures (although I wish I did sometimes), but 8mm film cameras were very popular. But my dad put most of his picture he took with his camera on slides and, wow, did he take a lot of it.
Of course he needed a place to store these slices, so they were placed in round sliding trays, which would hold the slices uniformly. Now there was nothing wrong with it, except the only way you could watch it properly was through a slide projector. This meant either watching them against a white wall or setting up the screen, which of course took some time (by which point the bulb on the projector would burn out).
Along with the era of the 8mm film camera, it was the Polaroid camera that advanced the image soon after it was captured. Not a bad idea, but the photos would disappear over time, and there was no good way to store them.
Then came the day of the 35mm camera. Great invention and still, but it still uses film and you are limited in the number of photos you can take on a roll of film. Now you can have these images either in slideshows or prints. But if you’re like my wife, whose hobby is taking pictures and filling out photo albums, you’ll (as we do) have photo albums all over the house, many of which no one ever looks at. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a very good way to capture and keep many memories.
Now comes the digital age, which I really like – you can do a lot more with a digital camera than with a conventional one. For one they store a lot of photos (literally hundreds on a memory card). Of course you can still put those pictures on the prints, but you also, (and here they come in) take that memory card and put it in a digital picture frame.
This digital photo frame will instantly display your photos and also store them. In addition, if you have photos on your computer, you can download them to your digital frame through the USB port. These frames are portable, which means you can move them from room to room or just leave them in one place. The digital frame will constantly scroll through all the images in there. Depending on the size of your memory card will determine the number of photos it can store and display. They run on batteries or AC and some run on 12V DC. They accept all memory cards, memory sticks, multimedia cards, secure digital cards, and compact flash drives. Frames can also play music and videos that you take with your digital camera or from a digital camcorder that can hold a memory card as well and of course the frame will display your still photos as well.
Digital picture frames come in all different sizes anywhere from 7″ up to 15″. The sizes in inches are the actual screen size. It is available in beautiful wood frames as well as attractive metal frames. To get a clearer view of your photos or videos, you will need to choose one with high resolution or pixels, usually the larger the screen size the more pixels, the higher the quality of the image you see.
The bottom line is this; The digital photo frame is the best idea that has appeared since the digital camera. What a great way to reduce the number of photo albums you have, as well as display your photos constantly so everyone can see them.
